Greetings from Rongjiang County
On the first day of 2026, I flew from Shanghai to Rongjiang County in Guizhou Province. This mountainous county of 388,000 people was one of the last nine deeply impoverished counties in China to be lifted out of poverty in 2021. Today (January 2), it hosted the opening ceremony of the fourth “Village Super League.” Tens of thousands of ordinary citizens gathered here to enjoy their own moments of happiness and joy. Such moments always make me marvel at how wonderful socialism is.
